Nature's Bounty - The Best Natural Skincare Ingredients For Radiant Skin!

Indagare means “to investigate” in Latin — and that is precisely what we do. We scrutinise each ingredient in our products and have an unshakeable commitment to ethically source the best natural botanicals our world has to offer our bodies.

We know it's in your nature to care for the world and your skin, and it's our greatest joy to give you the tools to do so. Below you’ll find the full compendium of beautiful botanical ingredients we use in the Indagare Natural Beauty range, and the exquisite benefits they may offer your skin.

    Aloe Vera

    Aloe Vera for skincare

An ancient cure-all, aloe vera has been used throughout the centuries — from Egyptian beauties seeking flawless skin (yes, even Cleopatra needed a little help) to fabled warriors like Alexander the Great needing a battle-wound fix. Absorbing into the skin four times faster than water, aloe vera delves deep to moisturise, soothe, and encourage collagen production. Aloe vera creates a protective barrier on the skin’s outermost layer to fight free radical damage and harmful toxins in the environment, acting to protect skin health and prevent signs of ageing.

    Argan

    Argan Oil for Skincare

Both healing and hydrating, our argan oil comes directly from Morocco, made fresh by a group of fair-trade Berber women. We only use the highest quality, certified-organic argan oil and bring it over in fresh, small batches to ensure potency. Argan not only helps protect from the free radical damage from sunlight (which causes the breakdown of healthy skin cells) but it encourages the skin to renew youthful elasticity. In Morocco, it is used for its gentle lightening effect on dark spots and blemishes. Argan oil is an age-old beauty secret with a high content of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E, which naturally help to increase hair's elasticity and restore shine. At Indagare, we only use fresh, cold-pressed argan oil to maintain the quality which can be lost in cheaper ‘heating’ methods.

    Camellia

    Camelia

Found in eastern and southern Asia, many species of camellia are indigenous to Japan, though some find their origins near the Himalayan mountains. Camellia oil is quick to absorb and helps protect skin from drying out while replenishing vital nutrients. Because of its high concentration of oleic fatty acid (Omega-9), camellia oil creates a barrier against environmental aggressors without clogging pores as it simultaneously supports and hydrates. It is this unique combination that allows camellia oil to keep hair, skin, and nails flexible while reinforcing their strength and shine, leaving you with a natural glow.

    Carrot Seed

    Carrot Seed Oil

The delicate white flowers of the carrot seed plant (also known as ‘Queen Anne's Lace’) yield an oil that packs a powerful beauty punch. With an impressive dose of carotol, which delivers anti-inflammatory and antifungal bioactive properties, carrot seed oil is soft on your skin and tough on bacteria and harmful environmental pollutants. Although it helps alleviate skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne, carrot seed oil is equally amazing for mature skin thanks to vitamins A, K, C, and biotin compounds that promote cell regeneration. Not to be confused with ‘carrot oil’ this is a multi-tasker we love.

    Cedarwood

    Cedarwood for Natural Skincare

Cedarwood oil is produced from the tiny azure berries found on a species of juniper, a plant native to the east coast of North America. Cedarwood is an all-natural means of regulating sebum production and reducing inflammation and itching, making it an excellent tool for people with eczema, dandruff, or similar skin conditions. Cedarwood essential oil is also considered to improve hair growth and reduce hair loss by balancing the oil- producing glands in the scalp. The woody fragrance also contains sedative properties, thought to help relieve tension caused by anxiety and stress.

Grapefruit helps hair appear glossy and shiny

A fresh burst of energy and a stimulating call to action for your skin, grapefruit essential oil is a quality lymphatic and antiseptic because it rids the skin of toxins and bacteria while keeping it blemish-free — ideal for those looking to expel acne. Because of its antimicrobial activity, grapefruit essential oil keeps the scalp free of infection for healthy hair, and, thanks to a unique chemical composition (and deliciously tangy scent), inhaling whiffs of the oil can also aid in stress management. Grapefruit seed oil is believed by some to aid in weight loss, as its composition curbs the inclination to overeat, and can even help in the fight against cellulite when used topically.

    Helichrysum

    Helichrysum also known as Immortelle

Also known as ‘Immortelle’, it is believed helichrysum was often offered to the Greek gods. Native to the Mediterranean region of Europe, the name comes from the Greek words helios, meaning the sun, and chrysos, signifying gold. It was nicknamed ‘Everlasting’ by those who noticed the flower didn’t wilt or lose its colour, even after being picked. A driving force in skin's regenerative process due to the chemical compounds found within, helichrysum stimulates the growth of healthy skin cells. This magical oil also fights metabolic cellular ageing and works to repair sun-damaged skin, soothe rashes, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Many believe helichrysum offers profound emotional benefits, cutting through emotional blocks on a subtle and gentle level. We source our Immortelle/Helichrysum direct from a family farm in Bosnia.

    Lavender

    Lavender for skincare

A flower whose use for cleansing both spiritually and physically is a recurring theme in ancient societies, ‘lavender’ comes from the Latin word lavare, meaning "to wash." Used by Ayurvedic healers to treat depression and European folk medicine to combat insomnia, modern science has now backed up the claims many ancient cultures have made about the plant. The scent of lavender increases alpha waves in the brain, triggering relaxation of the body to alleviate feelings of anxiety and restlessness. No less impressive when it comes to skincare, lavender treats inflammatory conditions as well as burns and wounds due to its antibacterial and pain-relieving qualities, leaving skin with faster regeneration times and a signature glow.

    Macadamia

Macadamia is a nourishing skincare ingredient

Indigenous to Australia, the oil of the ‘Queensland nut’ contains monounsaturated fatty acids, keeping your skin moisturised and allowing cells access to the building blocks of their walls that help keep skin supple and youthful. Macadamia protects from free radicals and oxidative damage, helping prevent premature ageing. Macadamia nut oil also contains squalene, a naturally produced fat in skin cells that protects the epidermis by creating a second-skin effect with natural oils to protect from environmental factors and maintain hydration. However, production of this skin-saving fat drops significantly after thirty, making macadamia oil a supportive substitute against wrinkles and age spots.

Because it fights off harmful bacteria and reduces inflammation, myrrh should be a key ingredient when it comes to a skincare routine focused on toning skin and reducing the appearance of scars (even for fussy skin with regular acne or eczema).

Neroli is cytophylactic, meaning it promotes the regeneration of new cells while giving a refreshing boost to the skin, a key process when it comes to the effectiveness of anti-ageing products. It’s packed with skin-firming vitamin C and helps skin maintain a youthful radiance, making it a firm favourite with mature skin as much as those managing blemishes.

    Prickly Pear Seed Oil

Prickly pear seed oil is a magical skincare ingredient

One of the world's most valuable and rare ingredients when it comes to skincare, prickly pear seed oil is nothing less than a miracle — though, it is important to note that not all prickly pear seed oil is the same. While many less effective and cheaper oils are processed from the prickly pear fruit, we use the far more effective and potent oil from the seeds. It takes an incredible 30+ hours to pick enough seeds to make just one litre, hence its prohibitive cost for skincare manufacturers. We source our highest quality, certified-organic oil from fair-trade cooperatives of Berber families in rural Morocco. These fresh, hand-harvested small batches are cold-pressed to perfection to ensure none of the skin-saving qualities are lost (as they would be in a heat-distilling production). Lightweight and quick to absorb, prickly pear seed oil contains incredible amounts of vitamin E to fight free radicals and regenerate skin. The unique combination of vitamins E and K fights dark circles, wrinkles, and skin pigmentation to bring back bright, youthful skin — all while tightening pores for a flawless look!

Naturally moisturising, it provides deep hydration by promoting the increase of water (rather than oil) in the skin, keeping the natural balance of oil production in check. Rose oil also has the unique ability to open up the skin to receive benefits from other ingredients. Rosehip Seed

    Rosehip for skincare

Rosehip has been treasured by ancient cultures for treating a range of ailments and (thanks to a high vitamin C content) it has been used in place of citrus fruits during times of need. Notably, precious scarlet rosehips were used to prevent scurvy during World War II, and today they’re still a powerful, natural source of vitamin C. Rosehip seed oil is wonderful for giving skin a flawless glow. Rosehip oil is naturally rich in vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, making it an ideal alternative to retinol for those with super sensitive skin types. It is easily absorbed and works as a gentle antioxidant to help brighten skin tone and protect skin from environmental damage. Between the anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids and antioxidants, rosehip seed oil works to reduce fine lines and age spots while protecting skin from environmental damage, without leaving a residue. A unique quality of the oil is its ability to stimulate circulation, helping relieve inflammatory skin conditions and leaving a soft, supple appearance. Once the seeds are cold-pressed into a light amber-coloured oil, this gift of nature provides your skin with deep hydration and essential nutrients.

    Sandalwood

    Sandalwood for skincare

Synonymous with the warm, woody incense scent, this oil is distilled from the sandalwood tree (traditionally grown in India and now in Australia). Commonly used for religious ceremonies and to aid meditation, sandalwood also has a range of beauty benefits. It can have a mild cleansing and firming effect when used topically, making it useful for everything from insect bites and acne to massage and moisturisation. Through decades of unethical harvesting in India, where entire trees were ripped out of the ground - roots and all - and no replanting took place drove Indian Sandalwood to the endangered species list. Australia is leading the way in the sustainable production of sandalwood. Indagare only sources Australian sandalwood for their formulas.

    Sea Buckthorn

Seabuckthorn is a healing and rejuvenation skincare ingredient

Professed by the Tibetans to be the "holy fruit of the Himalayas," sea buckthorn has been used throughout many cultures (even the Greeks used it to keep the coats of their horses shiny and healthy!). Sea buckthorn contains Omega-7, a rare find and a key to collagen production and glowing skin. Because it has the necessary building blocks of healthy skin (vitamins C, A, E, K, P, F, and B vitamins as well as magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, and calcium), sea buckthorn can assist in the regeneration and healing of skin that has seen severe injury or trauma such as extreme acne, burns, and chemotherapy. Turmeric is extracted from the root of a leafy plant indigenous to Southeast Asia and India. Used in Hindu marriage ceremonies to promote prosperity, turmeric is an integral element in various Ayurvedic medicine remedies. It has been found to have a comparable effect on pain to that of ibuprofen. When it comes to hair, turmeric can be used to stimulate the scalp (encouraging hair follicles to produce thicker, healthier hair more quickly), and strengthen hair by reducing breakage. Used in many hair products to fight hair loss or hair thinning, turmeric is a natural means of encouraging long, healthy hair without the detrimental effects some chemical treatments can have on the scalp.

    Ylang-Ylang

Ylang Ylang for hair and skin

The ylang-ylang flower is a unique ‘drooping’ flower that is best harvested early in the morning or at dusk when its scent is the strongest. Distilled through a complicated steaming process, ylang-ylang oil yields an all-natural anti-depressant and aphrodisiac. When it comes to hair care, ylang-ylang has a similar boosting quality. Used by many to treat hair loss caused by stress and alopecia, ylang-ylang oil is most effective when massaged into the scalp to stimulate the growth of strong, moisturised strands resistant to breakage. In the Victorian era, it was used to condition hair and reduce hair fall. In the same vein, ylang-ylang is a saviour for rough and dry skin, moisturising deeply to minimise redness and fighting infections and irritants while maintaining a healthy balance of oils in the skin.
